Students must
first apply to the specific graduate program and university
they are interested in.
The specific
web sites for these individual programs that will also provide
links to information about specific application guidelines
and where application materials can be obtained were listed
in the section on Participating Doctoral and Master’s

Students who wish
to be considered for financial support as an IGERT trainee
or associate should write a separate statement of purpose
that clearly states the specific graduate program(s) they
have applied for and their interest in this program. This
separate statement of purpose (that is in addition to the
one required on the graduate application) should be mailed
to the contact person below, at the institution the student
expects to be their home university:

The Selection Committee
will consider such measures as GPA and university attended,
class rank, letters of recommendation, GRE scores, and the
statement of purpose. Selection will also consider other critical
attributes, in order to obtain a diverse group of qualified
students and recognize other important qualities that make
a top PhD candidate.
Requirements
- Bachelors degree
in Chemical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Environmental
Engineering, Mechanical Engineering - Engineering Mechanics,
Environmental Policy, Public Policy, Social Science, or
related fields.
- Need not be
a current graduate student to apply.
Financial
Support
Students who

IGERT Trainees
receive an annual stipend of $30,000 and a cost-of-education
allowance that is used to pay tuition and fees. IGERT trainees
must be enrolled in a doctoral program and be U.S. citizens,
nationals or permanent residents.
IGERT Associates
are supported as graduate research or teaching assistants
and receive an annual stipend and payment of their tuition
and fees as set by the host university’s Graduate
School. IGERT associates will be allowed to participate
in most of the educational and research activities associated
with this program.
