This program will engage a diverse group of doctoral, master’s, and undergraduate students in an education/research training program to understand, explore, further develop, and apply the Sustainable Futures Model. One goal of the program is to enhance doctoral education by integrating the disciplines of green engineering and social sciences to produce professionals who can serve as catalysts for achieving future environmental, industrial, and societal sustainability. Accordingly, all students participating in the program are expected to take coursework in engineering, environmental science, social sciences, business, and international development and have their research incorporate these disciplines so it is a metadisciplinary endeavor.

IGERT Trainees receive an annual stipend of $30,000 and a cost-of-education allowance that is used to pay tuition and fees. IGERT trainees must be enrolled in a doctoral program and be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent residents.

IGERT Associates are supported as graduate research or teaching assistants and receive an annual stipend and payment of their tuition and fees as set by the host university’s Graduate School. IGERT associates will be allowed to participate in most of the educational and research activities associated with this program.
