Manufacturers Can Control: Facility Size and Location

Choosing the best facility size and location

Challenge: Finding the best location for the processing plant is important to keeping the costs low. Lowering the distance that the materials need to be transported means less fuel and driver time which will lower cost.

Location will also determine the size of the facility. Where the plant is placed will determine how much materials will be available at a reasonable delivery distance. The amount of materials that can be obtained will, among other factors, determine the size of the plant.

Solutions: Selecting the location and the size of the facility based on the availability of the feedstock is important. A manufacturer needs to select a location that is close to the greatest amount of materials. Then he/she must select the size of the plant to fit their desired production.
