NSF Grant Supports International Research Experience & Sustainable Development Engineering Education

Qiong Jane Zhang, Kurt Paterson, David Watkins, Brian Barkdoll, Linda Phillips, James Mihelcic, & Lauren Fry have received $144,345 from the NSF's Office of Office of International Science & Engineering for their proposal "Integration of an International Research Experience in Bolivia with Sustainable Development Engineering Education."

The proposed project will pair Michigan Tech doctoral students & undergraduate students with student engineering peers from Bolivia. The goal is to develop scientists and engineers with global perspectives by integrating sustainability and appropriate technology principles into international, community-based research projects. This project will partner with an academic institution (Bolivian Technological University) and a non-governmental organization (NGO) (ACDI/VOCA; Agricultural Cooperative Development International/Volunteers in Overseas Cooperative Assistance) in Bolivia to identify community-based research topics.
