Heather Wright Wins Pan American Student Design Competition environmental engineering graduate student Heather Wright was awarded 1st Place in the 2006 Student Design Competition at the 30th Pan American Conference of Engineers (Union Panamericana de Associations de Ingenieros, UPADI) that was held at Georgia Tech September 19-22. Three of the nation's most respected engineering organizations, American Society of Civil Engineers, American Society of Mechanical Engineers, and the National Society of Professional Engineers helped organize this Conference to help meet the infrastructure needs of Latin America and the Caribbean. The title of Heather's senior design project, which she performed while an undergraduate environmental engineering student at Michigan Tech was "Feasibility Study for Wetland Rehabilitation in Santa Cruz, Bolivia". Linda Phillips & Dennis Magolan serve as the faculty instructors for the Civil & Environmental Engineering "International Senior Design Course". Heather is currently enrolled as a doctoral student in environmental engineering as part of the Sustainable Futures Institute's National Science Foundation IGERT program. Her research is focused on how issues of global change (e.g., climate change, urbanization, population growth) impact the health of water ecosystems.
