Wood-to-Wheels (W2W) is a Graduate Enterprise whose goal is to increase the overall efficiency of converting solar energy captured in forest and other biomass resources into products for transportation using ethanol, biodiesel, and green diesel as high energy-density carriers. The W2W Enterprise is identifying and addressing the technical and societal barriers to sustainably producing forest resources, processing biomass to create ethanol, biodiesel and other co-products, and then utilizing the bio-fuels and co-products in vehicle and engine applications.

What is an Enterprise?

An Enterprise operates like a business with students producing annual deliverables to satisfy the mission of the Enterprise and its corporate sponsors/customers. The Wood-to-Wheels Graduate Enterprise will engage a cadre of MS and PhD students, who will be supervised by the Enterprise faculty members and co-advised by corporate sponsor representatives.
